Community Involvement

Universal has a social responsibility commitment that includes a focus on community out reach. Our initiatives benefit charitable organizations we have touched both financially and through volunteer efforts.

Community Outreach - 2008
In 2008 Universal kicked off its “UP Gives Back” initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to better identify those programs that will best serve the communities in which we live and work. Our goal is to support those organizations financially as well as through volunteer efforts. Our past and present community involvement includes the following:

  • United Way
    Through our vigorous work with United Way we have exceeded our contribution goals for the last four consecutive years and have received the United Way Award of Excellence as an Outstanding Community Leader for the last three consecutive years. Through the dedicated efforts of the Universal Personnel United Way coordinators we are proud to have made the highest contribution in the company’s history in 2008 topping our 2007 level by over 50%.
  • Desire NOLA
    Universal supports the efforts of this not-for-profit organization which was formed after Hurricane Katrina. The mission of the organization is to provide financial aid and professional counseling to small businesses. The organization contributes to the rebuilding the city one small business at a time.
  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
    In 2008 Universal contributed, on behalf of its employees and Board of Directors, to this nationally recognized hospital for children and is committed to continuing this tradition in recognition of the outstanding work that they do which has touched a number of our staff members.
  • Bridgehouse
    Universal has provided financial and volunteer support to this New Orleans based organization that provides rehabilitation services and housing for men and women with substance abuse challenges.
  • Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter and the Louisiana SPCA
    Financial support for these organizations has been a commitment of UP.
  • Human Resources Management Association (HRMA) of New Orleans Entrepreneur Initiative
    Universal has provided volunteer services to this association for the support of local entrepreneurs. Iin 2008 they worked with over 240 businesses, donated over $1,000,000 in grants and 28,000 hours of business consulting.
  • Better than Ezra Foundation
    Universal has provided volunteer support to this foundation during its annual fund raiser which supports its mission to renew the structural and cultural heritage of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana
