Mechanical Maintenance Planner
Client: Plant
Location: Geismar. La
Supporting: Maintenance
Schedule: 9/80 (off every other Friday) 

The Mechanical Planner is a contract position hired to work under BASF"s technical direction, policies, and procedures. 
Role Description:
Position develops detail job plans for mechanical resources according to BASF"s maintenance schedules and work lists. Position plans field execution of metal resources engaged in repairs of fixed equipment (pipe, boilers, furnaces, heat exchangers, towers, drums, pressure-relief valves, and other related equipment).
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform work activities efficiently while continuously looking for cost-saving opportunities
  • Plan for turnaround work including, duration, resources and manpower
  • Provide the overall integrated resource loaded work steps to the project scheduler
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Turnaround Scheduler to integrate project work scope into detailed resource loaded turnaround schedules
  • Provide detailed Material Sheets for each job package
  • Input job steps for resources into the planning tool including operations, third party, and outside contractors
  • Highlight problem areas and recommend remedial actions
  • Act as a liaison with team leaders to communicate required completion dates and interface between responsible parties  
  • Apply refining experience which includes maintenance associated with pipe fitting, boilermaker, welding, scaffolding, insulation, and laborer crafts for execution activities
  • Plan discovery work during the execution phase of the turnaround
  • Issue and track pre-shutdown fabrication work excluding capital projects
  • Participate in scope collection/challenge meetings in order to gain understanding of scope details as well as help define a true turnaround scope
  • Interface with Subject Matter Experts (SME's) as well as technical engineers to verify proper inclusion of job steps and sequencing
  • Incorporate reliability best practices in job plans
Qualifications & Skills for Success:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a turnaround planner in petrochemical industry (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Primavera and/or MS Project scheduling tools (preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of various mechanical skills (pipe fitting, welding, boiler making, electrical, rotating equipment, instrumentation, X-ray techniques & interpretation)
  • Proficient in reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, isometrics, P&IDs, etc.
  • Ability to understand field changes and red-line drawings
  • Ability to coordinate the work activities and schedules of multi-craft field work crews
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiar with MOC process and PSSR (pre-startup safety reviews) process
  • Basic safety training and/or site-specific training
