POSITION OVERVIEW (General Description):
The Chemist will test refinery products throughout the refining process to ensure quality and regulatory standards are met. The Chemist will provide assistance in problem solving to all other departments of the refinery.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These are the most significant job duties performed; other responsibilities or assignments not specifically mentioned may also be assigned.
* Maintain safe, clean and orderly working environment by complying with safety and laboratory procedures, rules, and regulations
* Provide analytical support for refinery operations, with scheduled and requested analysis, to maintain proper quality of unit products
* Provide analytical support for refinery problem solving
* Provide analytical support for Supply and Distribution to control raw materials and ensure quality of finished products, including retaining samples for future analysis verification
* Record observed or calculated laboratory data on appropriate data sheets and into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
* Run the necessary standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the laboratory equipment
* Develop and optimize product blend recipes to optimize refinery balances (octane, hydrogen, etc.), manage product specifications (benzene, sulfur, etc.), minimize octane and RVP giveaway, and meet production commitments
* Maintain required inventory levels of supplies
* Communicate accurate results to proper refinery departments
* Conduct oneself in a professional, approachable manner
* Promote teamwork in plant wide problem resolution
* To work on improving existing methods or creating new ones to better meet the needs of the refinery
* Works effectively without supervision
* Communicates well with employees from all areas of the facility
* Develop and maintain analytic and statistical reports
*  Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education: 
* Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or other related science degree

Minimum Required Experience:
* Demonstrated safety training in an industrial environment
* Solid written and verbal communication skills
* Proven documentation and writing skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
* Ability to work without direct supervision
* Good organizational skills
* Good housekeeping skills
* Knowledge of refinery products and specifications
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Good problem solving skills
* Legally authorized to work in the United States

Desirable/Preferred Education:
* Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment, i.e. Gas Chromatography, including calibrating and mechanical repairs.

Desired/Preferred Experience:
* Three (3) years knowledge of refinery laboratory testing procedures
* Three (3) years of laboratory operations experience
* OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification
